The cool-feel functional finishing of fabrics primarily involves coating or spraying special cool-finishing agents on the fabric surface. Among these, coolants mainly composed of xylitol undergo an endothermic reaction with sweat on the human epidermis, thereby reducing skin temperature, while coolants based on peppermint essential oil rely on their strong volatility and sublimation for evaporative heat dissipation.
Taking KND-LG30, independently developed and produced by Changzhou Kenada New Materials, as an example, this type of fabric cool-feel auxiliary is manufactured using the principle of latent heat exchange. Its main component is a special cooling factor. Fabrics treated with it have a surface phase change temperature slightly lower than human skin temperature, resulting in an instant comfortable and cool sensation upon contact. When used in combination with cross-linking agents during processing, it can also impart excellent wash resistance to the fabric.
The National Standardization Organization has issued the "Textiles—Test and Evaluation of Contact Instant Cool Feeling Performance" (GB/T 35263-2017) standard. Under the experimental conditions specified in this standard, a heat detection plate with a temperature higher than that of the test sample is brought into contact with it, while monitoring the change in the heat detection plate's temperature over time, and calculating the contact cool-feel coefficient q [J/(cm·s)]. This coefficient can characterize the instant cool-feel performance of the test sample, where a larger q value indicates a stronger cool sensation perceived by the skin, and a smaller q value indicates a weaker cool sensation.
Additionally, related standards for cool-feel textiles include FZ/T 73067-2020 "Cool-Feel Knitted Garments" and FZ/T 62042-2020 "Cool-Feel Fabric Bedding".
